The Power Meter & Light Source are used together to measure the power of an optical signal and loss or attenuation between the transmitter and the receiver in a fiber optic network. The light source sends the light and then the power meter measures the loss of power at the other end. This test is for the average power in the system. It is important to remember to test with the same wavelength that is being used in the system. If the system is 1310nm then the equipment must be set to that wavelength. The same holds true for 850nm, 1300nm, 1550nm or any other wavelength(s) that may be used.
