An OTDR ( Optical Time Domain Reflection Tester) measures loss within an optical fiber. When an OTDR is connected to optical fiber cable it sends light pulses into the fiber being tested. It then reads scattered or reflected light from the same end of the optical fiber. This tests the fiber to make sure it will perform properly. It is looking for faults or defects in the optical fiber. These returned signals of reflected or scattered light will indicate the location of the fault that is encountered.
